Helping Hollywood Kids During the Holidays

By Kim Sudhalter

December 4, 2014

One of the greatest joys of being a child is the magic of waking up Christmas morning to piles of exciting, sparkling toys under the tree. But for many children in Hollywood, Santa never arrives. Hollywood has a large community of needy families for whom Christmas is just another day. You can make a big difference, however, by donating toys at one of the following places and events in the next couple of weeks:

  1. Paramount Contractors & Developers are running a toy drive to benefit Hollywood PAL. Drop off your toy donations for kids ages 6-17 at either 6464 Sunset or 6565 Sunset lobby in the designated box. There is complimentary parking for 5 minutes at no charge so you can bring in your toy, or you can leave the toy with the parking attendant and they will arrange to put it in the box in the building lobby. Paramount will also host a Holiday Boutique at 6464 Sunset on 12/12/14 that will benefit The Center at Blessed Sacrament, the day center for Hollywood’s homeless population.
  2. Hollywood’s Battalion 5, along with the entire LAFD family, participates in the Spark of Love/Toys for Needy Children program.  They collect toys throughout the holiday season and then fill requests from a variety of organizations.  The collection and distribution is coordinated by their Toy Program Staff working out of the training center near downtown L.A.  Drop off an unwrapped toy at the fire station at 1327 North Cole Avenue and local Hollywood firefighters will deliver the toys on their fire engine.
  3. The Playhouse Group will be offering free admission to Playhouse Nightclub and No Filter Nightclub in Hollywood for anyone who brings an unwrapped toy throughout the month of December.
  4. The Hollywood Chamber will hold its annual Holiday Mixer & Toy Drive at Lombardi House (1717 N. Bronson Ave.) on Wednesday, December 17 from 5:30-8:30pm. Bring an unwrapped toy in lieu of admission. First drink on the house and delicious hors d’oeuvres will be served. RSVP online at
  5. Amoeba Music is collecting holiday gifts for Five Acres, and organization that works to prevent child abuse and neglect.  To donate, please bring in a new, unwrapped toy for a child age 4-16 to the information counter.  The toy drive runs through December 12. As a thank you for your donations, Amoeba Hollywood will offer a coupon for $3 off your purchase!

And you can support The Salvation Army Hollywood Campus and their children’s programs by attending their Christmas Eve Lunch on December 24th from 12-4pm at 5939 Hollywood Blvd. Call to pre-register by Friday, December 19 at 323.469.2946.
