Reunited: Mother Tongue Kicks Off #OIH2015
November 4, 2015
Along with Silver Needle, Mother Tongue will also be performing on the opening night of the Only in Hollywood Music + Arts Festival in a special reunion show at Saint Felix (1602 N. Cahuenga Boulevard).
Throughout Mother Tongue’s 25 year existence, filled with praise, hype, breakups, acclaim, obscurity and legend, the one thing that has remained consistent is the band’s intense live performance, its devoted fanbase, and the members “this might be our last shoe ever” attitude.
Formed in Austin Texas at the beginning of the 1990s, Mother Tongue established a reputation as “the band” to see and experience. The members moved to Los Angele a year later, gigging constantly throughout southern California in order to gain a following and label attention. It worked, as the band signed to Epic Records in 1994. Shortly thereafter it released its debut album and set out touring the US and Europe with support slots for artists like Smashing Pumpkins, The Flaming Lips, Kyuss, and The Cult.
Births, deaths, label issues and tensions within the band eventually caused Mother Tongue to implode.
Years later they reformed and released additional albums on a German label, finding a home overseas with a devoted European fan base with new music and its powerful live show experience.
It’s more than rare that Mother Tongue plays a hometown show. The Only in Hollywood Music + Arts Festival will be the band’s first performance in over five years! Like with every show, Mother Tongue plans to make this a very special event!
