Teye at Caffe Etc.

The intersection of Cahuenga Blvd. and Selma Ave has a storied and truly remarkable past. The northeast corner, which for the last ten years has been home to Caffe Etc—a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner spot—was once the location of one of Hollywood’s hottest recording studios. From 1967-1984, Wally Heider’s Studio Three recorded such world-renowned acts as Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Marvin Gaye, The Beach Boys, The Doors, Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Bowie, and many, many more. And now the owners of Caffe Etc pay tribute to the corner’s remarkable place in music history by staging a one-of-a-kind exhibit.
Owner Viviana Pollack has partnered with master Dutch guitarist, Teye (pronounced tie-ya), to showcase five dazzling pieces from his signature line of exclusive custom-made guitars. His gorgeous electric guitars, which are hand-crafted in Austin, TX, are beloved by such performers as Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes, Zac Brown, and Grammy-nominated guitarist Joe Taylor both for their beauty and their rich sound.
Teye Wijnterp’s philosophy as a guitar maker is based on a quarter-century of playing the instrument around the world as a professional performing and recording musician. He incorporated that experience into creating several lines of beautifully designed guitars that feature intricate laser-etched and hand-engraved metal tops, inset jewels and semi-precious stones. The guitars also feature technology that allows musicians to manipulate sound in new and innovative ways.
“Given that Caffe Etc is in the same building where all this musical magic happened,” said Viviana, “it just seemed to make sense to bring something this beautiful and special to our customers. We rebuilt the back wall to properly showcase a variety of models which represent the full range of products Teyes creates.”
Guitars highlighted range in value from $4600 for an F-series model to $25,000 for an A-series vintage piece. And most striking is a turquoise and silver guitar (seen above), most recently played by Keith Urban and available for only $16,000. Viviana is the exclusive purveyor of Teyes guitars in the Los Angeles area. All pieces in the display are for sale.
