The Future of Hollywood

Bisnow, the largest and most well recognized commercial real estate news source in the country, hosted “The Future of Hollywood” on Wednesday, April 29 at the W Hotel in Hollywood. The packed event featured HPOA’s own Kerry Morrison as the keynote speaker, as well as former board president Frank Stephan, Clarett West Development, on one of the panels. Other panelists included Kacy Keys, JH Snyder Company; Bob Champion, Champion Real Estate; David Simon, Kilroy Realty Corporation; Chris Barton, Hudson Pacific Properties; John Hrovat, Camden Property Trust; and Frank Stephan, Clarett West Development. The panels were moderated by David Stone, Allen Matkins; and Carl Muhlstein, Jones Lang LaSalle; with opening remarks from Michael Homeier, Homeier & Law P.C. and Mahsa Aliaskari, Polsinelli Law.
The conversation focused on the impressive amount of investment that has been made in Hollywood over the last fifteen years, the projects that are currently being built, and the opportunities for additional development. Panelists cited several of Hollywood’s attributes that make it an enticing place for creative businesses, tech and entertainment company, and millennials, including access to public transportation, new housing, converted creative office space and the authentic urban environment. The location, central to areas like downtown Los Angeles, Burbank, Culver City and Santa Monica was also noted. They all commented on the current building boom happening in Hollywood, which shows no signs of slowing. As Muhlstein noted, “there has never been this amount of development [in Hollywood].”
